Restoration, conservation and interpretation of Cape Brett Lighthouse and key associated structures and buildings over four years, in consultation with the Kororareka Marae Committee, Rawhiti Maori Committee, Waitangi and others.
Benefits of this work include: - Halting the fast acting decay of an iconic New Zealand lighthouse; - Bringing the lighthouse and settlement management together; Enhancing the well known Cape Brett Track. - Conserving the remains of the lighthouse settlement and two WWII stations; - Combining the intrinsic iconic values of the lighthouse with the personal histories of the settlement and navy stations to provide an outstanding visitor destination; and - Facilitating the involvement of community groups and integration of historic assests with visitor experience.
